Name the level that proves you wrong
- Risk
Every analysis has a point at which it stops being true. An invalidation level is that point, named in advance.
It is not the same thing as a stop loss, although the two often sit in the same place. A stop loss is where the trade exits. An invalidation level is where the idea was wrong — where the structural reason for the trade no longer exists.
Why it has to be decided before entry
Before you are in a position, the level is a judgment about the chart. After you are in, it becomes a judgment about your money, and those produce different answers.
This is the mechanism behind most avoidable losses. The level was clear beforehand, price approached it, and the reasoning changed — it only needs a bit more room; the wick does not count; the daily hasn't closed yet. None of those are chart arguments. They are arguments against taking a loss, in chart clothing.
Naming the level out loud, before entry, removes the negotiation. It is already decided, by the version of you that had no money on the line.
It also tells you when there is no trade
There is a second use that gets missed. If the invalidation level is so far away that a sensible position size becomes pointless, the setup is not tradable — regardless of how good the read is.
That is not a disappointing conclusion. It is the system working. A method that can only ever say "take this trade" is not a method.
Why the sessions show the ones that did not fill
In the 21 October session an invalidation level is stated explicitly on camera, before any entry. Later in the same session a zone is discussed that price approaches and never taps into — had an order been resting there, it would not have filled.
Both of those are deliberate. A record that shows only the trades that worked teaches nothing about how the decisions were made, and it cannot be checked. The sessions are published in full, with the analysis that came to nothing left in, because that is the only part of a track record that is hard to fake.
What this does not tell you
Where a level belongs on a given chart is a decision, and this article does not make it. It follows from the structure in front of you, which means it cannot be read off without doing that work first.
What is general is the habit: decide it before you enter, say it where someone can hear you, and let it be wrong in public.
